As much as I’m a fan of Sierra’s old adventure series of games, I’ll admit to never having played the Quest for Glory (or, as it was originally titled, Hero Quest) series. Well, now you and I will have our chance to make up for that horrible injustice. Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire, which I’m told is a fan favorite, has been remade in striking, 256 color, VGA glory and is now available for download.
The people behind this remake, AGD Interactive, are the creators of Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman’s Mine, a recent point-and-click Western adventure game that is kind of terrible, actually. I don’t hold that against them, though, as I can tell that their hearts are in the right place, keeping the adventure genre fires burning for those of us that still believe.
Thanks, Quarter To Three forums.

Speaking of chiptunes, the game music-esque documentary Reformat the Planet is available for your viewing pleasure. This inside look at the inside of the 8-bit music scene will be making its West Coast debut at the Penny Arcade Expo 2008 this August 29-31. For the next week, however, you can view it online, courtesy of the fine folks at Pitchfork.tv. Once you are finished watching, don’t forget to head on over to 2 Player Productions to purchase a copy of the DVD for your personal collection. I’m off to watch it…

If you were to create a 2D side-scrolling zombie killing action game based on Resident Evil/Castlevania/Ninja Gaiden, what would its soundtrack consist of? You may wonder no longer friend, because the Pterodactyl Squad released the soundtrack to their unfinished masterpiece “Zombie Birthday Cake” a long time ago. I’ve only recently discovered it, in all its glory.

Composer Johnathan Godbolt has definitely captured the frenetic philharmonics of 16-bit side-scrolling action and added just a touch of spooky. Click the cover image to download it for FREE!
Here’s hoping they finish up the game someday.
