Only the greatest video game show ever. Rather than force us to wait endlessly for a monthly episode that may or may not show up, the fine lads at Consolevania are running a little experiment. Each “segment” that made up Consolevania as a whole back in the old days, is being released as it is completed, in small 1 to 10 minute chunks, allowing viewers to enjoy their Consolevania a la carte.
I only understood about half of that, but it’s still two times better than anything else.
Back in September, I took part (at least, I think I did…) in an Xbox Live sweepstakes called the Grand Theft Auto IV Cause Chaos Live Weekend Play & Win Sweepstakes. I signed up at the aforementioned website and played a few rounds of GTA4 multiplayer that weekend. It’s not like I held any grand illusions about stealing away with a grand prize, but as I would probably have been playing the game anyway, I thought I might as well throw my hat in to the ring.
About 2 years ago, I had entered a sweepstakes for a tricked out bicycle that Rockstar was giving away as part of a GTA: San Andreas promotion. Months later, having forgotten that I had even entered, I received notice that I had, in fact, been choosen as a “Runner-Up”, and received a box of San Andreas related goods, including a nice Carhart hoodie (black) that has served me well on many a cold and lonely gaming night and assisted in hiding my increasing girth due to said nights. Since then, I’ve made it a point to enter any random sweepstakes in the hopes of being surprised, yet again, but not investing any significant amount of effort or interest. I’ve managed to aquire Battlefield 2 and Excite Truck in this way.
For whatever reason, most likely my general interest in GTA4, I’d been keeping tabs on this particular “contest” more than others. According to the official rules:
Unfortunately, that link leads to a “Page Not Found” error on the Xbox site. Have I been swindled into giving away my contact information, all willy-nilly? It wouldn’t be the first time, and it’s probably not the last. If anyone out there can resist the allure of a 1 in 100,000 chance of winning a pack of stickers worth $5 (USD), please let me in on your secrets of resistance.
UPDATE: Doc’s puppy needs surgery and he’s having trouble making ends meet this month. If you can donate $15 or more, you’ll get a physical copy of the full album release later this month. Save the puppies, and then dance with them!
My head esplode! The genius Doctor Octoroc has just released a teaser of his in progress Christmas album 8-bit Jesus, and it has blown my mind’s brain. Not content to simply port over several holiday favorites to the 8-bit format, the good doctor has based each of these tunes on a particular game from that era with incredibly spectacular results. Joy to the World as if it were included in Bionic Commando? Fantastical. A version of Carol of the Bells straight out of Castlevania? Stunning. The best part of the whole deal is that only half of the tracks have been released so far, with the rest due out around the coming of Old Saint Nick. Please immediately head to Doc’s blog and give him some feedback and motivation to finish this amazing amazingness.
UPDATE: Ughzzz…I totally forgots: team this with the 8-bit Peoples’ The 8bits of Christmas and all of your Christmas dreams will come true and be awesome.
